Enhancement: Gedcom Import

Reported by nengard | February 5th, 2009 @ 02:05 PM

I was working on my family tree and thought that it would be great to be able to upload GEDCOM files to Kete and have them parsed into pages for each person with links to each other. That way, people who have done research already on their family can add it to Kete without having to re-enter all of their info.

Attached are two GEDCOM files - one from Ancestry.com and one from Geni.com - both of the same tree to give you an idea of what these files look like.

Wow. Really cool idea. Kete includes a decent amount of import
functionality already with this sort of thing in mind. I'll have a
look at the attached files and comment on what I think is necessary
    for it to happen.

    Cheers, Walter

Glad you like it :) It's my new passion - family trees and I love Kete for it - but I can't use it yet unless I want to enter 1300 people by hand again :)

I'll send you screenshots of what the trees and profiles look like and such if you want :)

PS. Chris Cormack told me how to submit this idea ;) and know all about my obsession.

There is an open source Genealogy program - if that helps - but I haven't gotten it to work on my Mac yet ....
