I would like Kete users to be able to see geographical places on a map .. a mashup? with Google maps?? Is there an api already to do this?
http://www.whatwashere.com/ This is cool because divided by decades…. and they are looking for partners….
Could a user pinpoint a place on a map if they don’t have GPS cordinates?
Should we collect GPS cordinates from day 1 to facilitate this happening in the future?

Another site that uses geographical points on a map – for photos and comments – is zoomin.co.nz. It has Levin entries already – search for Kings Drive, Levin to see an example.

Included a field for collecting GPS cordinates in Place template even though we can’t do anything with it yet.

This would be a great feature, but will require budget to develop. So for the moment I will put back to Jo. Unless anyone else wants to build it for us :-)

- State changed from new to open
This has been implemented for detail pages for individual items by Kieran and will be in 1.2. It requires that a site enable it by acquiring a Google Maps API key.
However, a general display of multiple items (browse/search results) has not yet been implemented.
Cheers, Walter

- State changed from open to resolved
- Tag changed from extended_fields to coordinates, extended_fields, geotagging
- Milestone set to 1.3
The display of multiple items' locations on a single map has been implemented and will be a part of the 1.3 release. It can already be seen in the wild by going to http://chinesecommunity.org.nz/en/site/all/images/?view_as=choice_h... and clicking on "View on map".
